Update Your Browser

Why keeping your Chrome browser up-to-date matters

Posted on 10 March 2025 by Beaming Support

Have you ever clicked on a website and found it just wouldn’t load properly? Or perhaps you’ve had a reminder that securing data is important? Keeping your browser up-to-date is a simple step that can make a difference to your online experience (In this post we are referring to Google Chrome but it also applies any other browser you use).

It’s easy to think that if things are working, there’s no need to bother with updates. However, neglecting updates can leave you vulnerable to security risks and prevent you from experiencing the full potential of the web.

Security

Outdated browsers are far more susceptible to malware and phishing attacks. Chrome updates often include crucial patches for newly discovered security weaknesses, protecting your personal details and online accounts. Cyber criminals are constantly finding new ways to exploit security holes, and updates are a defence against these threats.

Many websites use advanced encryption to keep your information safe. By keeping Chrome updated, you ensure your browser supports the latest security protocols, like TLS, which provide stronger protection against data breaches.

Updates to Chrome ensure your browser recognises the latest trusted authorities, preventing you from accidentally visiting fake or malicious sites. Websites use digital certificates to prove they are who they say they are. Your browser checks these certificates against a list of trusted authorities. Outdated browsers may not have the most current list, leading to warnings or blocked websites.

Improving browsing experience

It’s not just about security, though. Updates often include performance improvements, making the browser faster and more responsive. This means smoother browsing, quicker page loading, and less strain on your computer’s resources. Chrome updates can also introduce new tools and functionalities that enhance your browsing experience, such as improved tab management or better integration with other Google services.

How to update Chrome

Making sure your Chrome browser is up-to-date is easy. Just click the three dots in the top right corner, select ‘Help’, and then ‘About Google Chrome’.
