Can I upgrade to full fibre broadband?
Posted on 8 March 2021 by Beaming SupportAs you rely on more different and new technologies to help run your business, have you found that your super fast fibre broadband has reached the point whereby it needs to be upgraded in the near future due to the ‘copper stop-sell‘” or your FTTC or SOGEA has become less reliable? If you and your employees find that accessing and using cloud based applications (Eg. Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, or industry specific software like Iris and Open GI) has become a frustrating chore that eats into your productive time, you may be considering an upgrade from superfast broadband to full fibre.
What is full fibre broadband?
There are two types of technology – FTTP and fibre optic leased lines – that are both often referred to as “full fibre”, but they are different. We explain this in more detail here but as an overview, FTTP is a product aimed at residential and smaller business customers who require fast speeds but don’t need the guarantee of 24/7 365 uptime and reliability, while a leased line gives businesses an entirely dedicated private connection to the internet that comes with the best possible service levels and the reassurance of absolute minimum downtime.
How do I upgrade to a full-fibre connection?
Upgrading to FTTP
To upgrade from FTTC super fast broadband to FTTP ultrafast broadband, you’ll need to check that FTTP is available at your property. The infrastructure needed to bring FTTP to homes and businesses is being rolled out across the UK in stages, get in contact with Beaming and we’ll check if it is available in your location. We have access to various ways of checking this and can give you the most accurate information.
If FTTP is available in your area and you are already a Beaming customer, upgrading is really simple. We’ll send out a new, preconfigured router and manage the transition from FTTC to FTTP so that downtime, if any, is kept to an absolute minimum.
If you’re not a Beaming customer, upgrading to our business grade FTTP is still as outlined above, we’ll just need your details to get you signed up and you’ll soon be working with ultra-reliable broadband that comes with support from our easy to reach technical experts.
Upgrading to a fibre leased line
When you go from FTTC to a leased line you’ll notice a huge difference in your internet’s speed and reliability. Your business premises may already have the infrastructure in place for leased line connectivity, so if that’s the case the installation of a new line should be fairly quick and straightforward.
If the necessary fibre optic cabling is not already in place, you don’t have to wait for your location to be connected as part of a national scheme. We’ll arrange a survey to find out the estimated cost of installing the leased line and help you translate the technical jargon in the survey results. If you choose to go ahead, we’ll liaise with Openreach throughout the process, so all you have to do is wait for your new router to arrive.
Whichever option is best for your business, throughout the whole installation process and beyond you will be supported by our teams of friendly humans who speak your language.
